It started from the popular variety show Wow the World (地球超新鲜), where both are series regulars. A segment where Liu Yuning playfully nudging Gong Jun off the platform into a mud pit is now being scrutinized “frame-by-frame” as fans believe their side has been wronged.
Both stars eventually took to social media to quell the issue, emphasizing they are good friends in real life. Liu Yuning left a comment on his fan group, making it clear that: “I’ve already talked with Gong Jun privately. Between the two of us, this really isn’t a big deal.” He also urged his fans: “Please don’t attack other people anymore. Let’s keep a low profile. This matter ends here.” He asked everyone to put the show, the production team, and the staff first, and to work together to support Wow the World. Later, on, Liu Yuning posted on Weibo: “I’m very fortunate to have met Wow the World… There are definitely things I could have done better, and I’ll be twice as careful in the future.”
Gong Jun also left a voice message for his fan community, saying: “My relationship with Brother Liu is very good in private. We’re really good friends, very, very good friends.” He encouraged fans to focus on the joy and humor of the variety show rather than the controversy. In the comments under Liu Yuning’s Weibo post, the two interacted. Gong Jun joked: “Brother Liu, next time I’ll take you to eat Chengdu’s No. 1 pork trotters!” Liu Yuning immediately replied: “Sounds good! My treat!!!”
While some fans believe the issue extend beyond that, many are applauding the two stars for choosing to communicate privately and appeasing their fans publicly rather than allowing fan conflicts to escalate. The two were already co-stars even before the variety show as they also collaborated in 2023’s The Legend of Anle.
