‘The Untamed’ Actor Wang Zhuocheng Almost Landed a Hollywood Lead Role He Thought Was a Scam at First

In a recent livestream, Chinese actor Wang Zhuocheng revealed that he was approached by a Hollywood production for a leading role. At first, the 29-year-old star thought it was a scam. After verifying information from multiple sources, he realized the opportunity was real. “At the time, it felt so unreal. It was the first time I felt this close to my dream.”

In early 2026, Wang Zhuocheng received an audition invitation for a male lead role from a team claiming to be from Hollywood. Because he had no prior contact with them and such an opportunity was extremely rare, he was immediately suspicious. It was only after signing an English NDA and verifying the director’s identity and legitimacy of the project that he confirmed its authenticity.

Wang Zhuocheng specifically hired an English teacher to thoroughly prepare. He shared, “I feel like all the English I’ve learned throughout my life was used in this interview.” He admitted he was almost in tears from the opportunity and communicated with the director many times. In the end, he advanced all the way to the final round, where it came down to two. Unfortunately, he was not selected.

Wang Zhuocheng admitted that when he later saw filming photos from the project, he inevitably felt a little regret. However, he praised the actor who was cast for being “incredibly talented” and said it’s an honor to have competed. About not being selected, he said, “I think maybe this was all arranged by fate.” He later posted on Weibo: “So hard work really will be seen,” sharing a photo of his music sheet and densely written notes for the role.

Wang Zhuocheng gained attention for playing Jiang Cheng in the costume drama The Untamed. His other notable works include supporting roles in Rebirth For You, Love Like the Galaxy, and The White Olive Tree.
