Alice Chan Leads Themis Prequel, Reprising Role as Ko Suk Wah

Hong Kong actress Alice Chan delivered a memorable performance through her supporting role in Themis, the drama led by Charmaine Sheh who plays the female judge. She breaks away from the traditional villain archetype to play an elite lawyer who is also the “mother of a criminal.” And this time around, the 52-year-old actress is set to take the lead in the prequel series, moving out of the juvenile court to face off against new characters played by Kelly Cheung and Moon Lau. Veteran actor Gallen Lo is also set to join the cast.

Following its predecessor The Queen of News, Themis also received high ratings. Many characters and cases sparked discussion, like Alice Chan’s portrayal of Ko Suk Wah. Unlike her usual gentle image, Alice Chan delivered fierce courtroom performances and even twisted facts to protect her son Adam, leaving audiences both impressed and frustrated and sparking curiosity about Ko Suk Wah’s past.

Capitalizing on this success, TVB is producing a prequel centered on Alice Chan’s character. It will reveal how Ko Suk Wah was shaped into who she is and her mysterious past, including how she became a mother. Alongside multiple courtroom cases, the series will also depict internal power struggles among lawyers competing for the position of lead counsel. Production of this prequel is expected to begin earlier than the spin-off of The Queen of News, which is set to star Samantha Ko as the project is said to have been delayed.
