“Nirvana in Flames” Has Wu Jinyan Reborn as a Palace Maid Out for Revenge Opposite Miles Wei as Emperor

Nirvana in Flames (凤不栖), which began filming on April 14, 2026, at Hengdian World Studios in Zhejiang, has dropped its first posters of Wu Jinyan and Miles Wei Zheming.

The story follows Qin Changge (Wu Jinyan), the empress who helped Xiao Jue (Wei Zheming) ascend the throne as emperor. However, she is ultimately betrayed and burned to death. Three years later, she is reborn as a palace maid and returns to exact her revenge. Wu Jinyan may have built her reputation through revenge dramas, but she shared that this role is the most difficult she has taken on so far. She said that after discussing the script with the director, she often can’t fall asleep, as if she’s “under a spell.” This project also marks Wei Zheming’s first time leading an S+ historical drama. His character undergoes a transformation from a gentle man to an unhinged ruler.

As with many rebirth narratives, things in the “past life” are rarely as they seem. Qin Changge’s return suggests there are deeper conspiracies at play, with potential suspects behind her downfall.

The supporting cast includes Wang Duo, Liu Lingzi, Wang Youshuo, and Zeng Keni as a special star. The drama is directed by Guo Hu (Mysterious Lotus Casebook) and adapted from the novel Di Huang by Tianxia Guiyuan, the same author behind The Rise of Phoenixes and Legend of Fuyao.
