Du Meizhu Accused of Scamming 200,000 RMB: Former Whistleblower Now Facing Fraud Allegations?

In 2021, Chinese influencer Du Meizhu became known for exposing Kris Wu who has now been imprisoned. It’s been four years and she’s once again making headlines—this time as the accused.

A woman known online as “Bingjie” has publicly claimed she was scammed by Du Meizhu out of nearly 200,000 RMB (approx. 28,000 USD). She says the money was given between 2022 and 2023 to help Du Meizhu with legal costs and illness, only to later realize the latter allegedly spending it lavishly.

From Whistleblower to Accused:

This isn’t the first time Bingjie made the accusation. She first came forward in 2024 and filed a civil lawsuit, which Du reportedly won. But in June 2025, Bingjie returned with renewed claims—this time with her 80-year-old father traveling to file a police report. She says Du Meizhu blocked her on WeChat and is avoiding confrontation.

Du Meizhu Responds: “It Was a Gift, Not a Scam”

Bing Jie angrily called out, “May I ask Du Meizhu, are you afraid to face me? Once again, I sincerely ask anyone who has been scammed by her to contact me — let’s speak out together!” She also urged the media, saying she’s willing to be interviewed and hopes netizens can help share the news. As the allegations trended on the hot search, Du Meizhu responded, saying the money was a voluntary gift, not a scam or loan. “I won’t admit to something I didn’t do.” She hit back by criticizing Bing Jie, saying, “When she had money, she would shower streamers with gifts and spend lavishly. Now that she’s broke, she wants to ask them to give it back?”

She accused Bingjie of “moral blackmail” and shared chat screenshots showing Bingjie saying repayment wasn’t necessary. Du Meizhu also said she had transferred money to help Bingjie in the past but won’t tolerate being slandered. If the attacks continue, she says she’ll take legal action.

Online, opinion is split. Some believe Du Meizhu took advantage of sympathy to raise money. Others argue that voluntary donations can’t be reclaimed later.
