SNH48’s Wang Yi Leaves Agency: "It’s Not a Temporary Break, Legal Action to Follow"

Wang Yi, a popular member of the current batch of Chinese idol group SNH48, is the latest artist from Star48 to announce her decision to leave the agency. In her lengthy post, the 23-year-old also revealed the immense personal struggles she has faced over the years. Her departure comes after relentless pressure and health issues, which have taken a toll on both her physical and mental well-being.

Wang Yi reflected on the challenges that led to her decision. She mentioned feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, insomnia, and a sense of emotional instability that had gradually built up. “Anxiety wraps around me like a shadow, insomnia becomes a norm, and my emotions hover on the edge of losing control,” she wrote. Her health, once a source of vitality, began to deteriorate rapidly, especially after a family loss in October 2021.

Despite achieving success, including high rankings in SNH48’s competitions, Wang Yi felt unsupported by the agency. “I received a second-place trophy in a song competition, but was treated carelessly. Even after securing the second spot in a performance, I was overlooked,” she shared. Everything culminated n an irreversible collapse of her health in mid-2024.

On the eve of May 5, she announced her decision to leave. Though difficult, it was made after reflecting on her health and future. “I don’t want to accept the conclusion where I am slowly consumed by this environment,” Wang Yi confessed. In her farewell message, she expressed deep gratitude towards her fans. “I’m sorry to leave, but I am choosing a healthy future for myself,” she concluded, asking her supporters to wait for her return. To make matters even more clear, Wang Yi wrote, “It’s a contract termination, not a temporary break. I will be pursuing legal action.”
