The live action adaptation of popular Korean BL manhwa Painter of the Night 야화첩 has been greenlit to begin filming in June. According to reports, the project which is adapted from author Byeonduck’s work, is currently in the pre-production phase and auditioning actors. Set during the Joseon dynasty, the plot centres around a young aristocrat who finds himself attracted to the erotic paintings of men from a little known painter who works under a pseudonym. After finding himself kidnapped for his erotic paintings, what unfolds is a story filled with temptation and emotional entanglements.
South Korean Netizens familiar with the manhwa have pointed out that the story is studded with very racy scenes. In fact, skeptics raised a pretty valid concern. Others have said Painter of the Night isn’t exactly the kind of content that will translate well into a drama. “If you search carefully enough, there are actually other works that are more suitable to be adapted into BL dramas.” “Can they even shoot sex scenes?” another Netizens asked.
Supposedly, the series will be taking on a short format with each episode about 2 minutes long. Given the sexual theme, access will be restricted to viewers age 15 and up.

I’m sure it won’t be as explicit if you got the permission to film and air.
