Everybody seems to be out for Leo Luo Yunxi’s blood in his latest project Whispers of Fate 水龙吟. Based on Teng Ping’s popular martial arts novel Enduring a Thousand Tribulations aka Qian Jie Mei, Luo Yunxi steps into the shoes of Tang Lici, a highly skilled and super intelligent swordsman who’s practically a killing machine not only with his amazing sword skills but also with his ability to unleash deadly magical piranhas with just a stroke of his lute.
Unlike a lot of the costume dramas c-dramas have been churning out lately, Whispers of Fate is classified as a xuanhuan drama, combining traditional martial arts with the rich fantasy elements of xianxia to further enhance the story. And clearly, the show went all out for its fantasy effects and costumes. Luo Yunxi’s in particular, whether in his black assassin look or white with his signature silvery white fox fur (a nod to his nickname as “fox tang” for his astute and intelligent nature), is a veritable feast for the eyes.
Aside from the actor, expect to see quite a good looking bunch for the main male supporting cast. Fans have even taken to jokingly dubbing their rivalry as a “fight between gods”. There’s Xiao Shunyao who takes a page from his tough guy role in Mysterious Lotus Casebook to play Shen Langhun – both an enemy and a friend, Ao Ziyi who brings in sunny and bubbly vibes as Chi Yun and Alen Fang Yilun who transforms into the evil and crazy Liu Yan. Meanwhile, rounding out the rest of the main supporting cast are the ladies Sebrina Chen Yao who plays the villain Xifang Tao, Bao Shangen who portrays the chivalrous woman Zhong Chunji and Jelly Lin Yun as the maid A Shui.
