On March 25, 2025, Chinese actor Gao Taiyu (real name Yao Yang) announced his retirement from the entertainment industry. The actor portrayed a variety of roles in dramas like Douluo Continent and Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils. Some may know him from the 2016 BL film A Round Trip to Love. He now chooses to step away from the spotlight to embrace a different life.
Reflecting on his ten-year journey, Gao Taiyu wrote:
“I am actor, Gao Tiayu. I’ve, decided to retire. In the past 10 years, I have lived a thousand lives using someone else’s name—the bloodstained king, the general who swallows mountains and rivers… the overbearing CEO who makes girls scream.” But now, the 33-year-old star wants to step out of the frame. He referred to fans as not just IDs on screen, but the light of his life and he’s specially grateful.
Does he regret his decision? He doesn’t. He revealed that he had quietly declined offers in the past two to three years, shifting his focus to personal ventures, including launching a clothing brand and investing in a restaurant.
“The entertainment industry’s feast—I have left early. For the most important role in my life, to become myself.”
Gao Taiyu also shared his future aspirations, expressing his desire to climb mountains, embark on long road trips, and experience the beauty of everyday life. His announcement was met with encouragement from fans, who wished him success in his next chapter.
