Six years since getting his big break in 2019’s Jade Dynasty, canine actor Da Huang has been steadily adding on to his acting portfolio. At 7, the adorable pup, a “tugou” aka Chinese native dog), has already appeared in at least six dramas and two films. Thanks to him playing Cheng Yi’s beloved doggo “Hu Li Jing” in Mysterious Lotus Casebook, these days he’s getting more and more popular and in demand! Case in point, Da Huang who plays ‘Er Niu’ even got his very own live box alongside the cast of Si Jin during their recent broadcast promoting the drama.
According to his owner and now agent, Mr. You, Da Huang who was a rescue dog eventually got his start in show business when the crew of Jade Dynasty were looking out for local doggos to act opposite Xiao Zhan. Things just snowballed from there. And now, thanks to the work of canine actors like Da Huang who helped pave the way for better treatment of animal actors on set, Mr. You says how the animals are being treated on set is so much better than before.
But what does this rising star “think” about his new found popularity? Mr You says “sometime’s he’s very happy. He interacts and plays with people, and the crew, actors and trainers will also prepare some delicious food for him.” I guess we can all safely say “living a dog’s life” very definitely has a new meaning.

I think Tu Gou is more suitable translated as Mongrel or Mutt (type of unidentified breed) while China Native breed of dog supposed to be Shih Tzu and Pekingese
