Lee Wei, known for his roles in classic Taiwanese idol dramas like My Lucky Star before shifting to Chinese dramas, has been embroiled in a shocking criminal case. Reports from Taiwanese media reveal that new developments have surfaced regarding his alleged involvement, which has changed from witness to suspect.

The case traces back to April 2024, when a female accountant surnamed Cai followed religious writer Wang Yun to practice spiritual cultivation in Taipei. Two months later, Cai was found dead with extensive bruising on her body, and her bank account had been drained of large sums of money. Authorities suspect that Wang Yun instigated followers to impose severe punishment on Cai resulting in her death.

According to reports, authorities have obtained a secret recording that suggests Lee Wei who is also one of the believers, was not just a passive bystander but played a strategic role in the crime. He had been summoned by authorities three times as a witness in January before being questioned for a fourth time on February 24. Lee’s status has now changed to that of a suspect amidst ongoing investigation. Lee Wei’s wife was granted bail for 150,000 NTD (approx 5K USD), while Lee himself was released on bail for 300,000 NTD (approx 10K USD).
