Love and Sword 只此江湖梦 joins the slew of February releases as it premiered on February 26, 2025. February has been buzzin’ with modern dramas so this Vengo Gao Weiguang and Xuan Lu led one is among the handful of costume historicals. The series brings viewers back to the world of wuxia as our modern day heroine literally “falls” into it.. but accidentally of course. What’s an ordinary woman to do when she’s transported to the past and into the persona of a supposedly powerful swordsman named Rong Shukuang, except she’s a swordsman with zero martial arts skills?
Meanwhile, VengoGao Weiguang plays the ruthless bounty hunter Yan Shao who comes to Rong Shukuang’s rescue when her skills aren’t up to scratch. The pair team up to protect each other’s backs along the way. Love and Sword also stars Ren Hao, Jia Nai, Yuan Yuxuan and Martin Zhang Haocheng with special appearance by actor Liu Tianzuo.
Being a drama that wrapped filming in 2022, Love and Sword finally makes it off the shelves after three years. But because of that, it feels a bit dated—both in production quality and compared to newer dramas. And that voice dubbing? Pretty rough. Whatever the case, it’s finally here! Plot-wise? It’s a mix of silly and, let’s be real, kinda over-the-top. But hey, if you like the leads..
Actress Xuan Lu previously gained attention as martial sister Jiang Yanli in the wildly popular 2019 series The Untamed. More recently, she took on a second lead role in the revenge drama Kill My Sins. It’s nice to see her step into the spotlight as the female lead this time. The same goes for Vengo Gao, who also started out in second lead roles before making the jump to main lead status.
