Lee Joo-Sil Who Last Appeared in Squid Game 2 Passes Away at 80

Veteran South Korean actress Lee Joo-Sil, who last appeared in Squid Game 2 as the mother of Wi Ha-jun’s character, police detective Hwang Jun-ho, has passed away just a month before what would have been her 81st birthday on March 8. Her agency, 1230 Culture, confirmed that the actress died on February 2 at 10:20 AM due to complications from stomach cancer.

\Lee Joo-Sil had an impressive career spanning nearly 60 years. She made her debut in the 1960s as a stage actress and reached the peak of her career in the 1970s and 1980s. She continued to make appearances in popular projects such as Train to Busan, The Uncanny Counter, and worldwide hit series Squid Game 2, most recently.

Lee was previously diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She fought the disease courageously while continuing her education. However, in November 2023, she was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Despite her health struggles, she remained committed to acting, completing filming before her condition worsened. Many mourn the loss of a dedicated talent who spent her life in the arts.
