
Taiwanese composer and singer Steven Liu Chia-Chang has passed away at the age of 83 due to cancer. The family initially kept the news private, but it was later confirmed through an official statement. They expressed gratitude for the public’s understanding, requesting privacy during this difficult time. “In his final days, Teacher Liu was surrounded by his closest family members and passed peacefully,” the statement read. It was revealed that Liu Chia-Chang passed away on December 2, 2024 and his funeral will be conducted quietly in respect of his family’s wishes.
Before it was announced, news of his passing had already spread. Showbiz insider Wong Man-Ling mourning the singer-songwriter’s loss on social media further confirmed the news. She also shared that in February 2024, Liu Chia-Chang visited Hong Kong in high spirits; however, a large lump was found on the right side of his neck and he was diagnosed with tumors in the neck and lungs and underwent chemo. A photo of Liu taken in April this year showed that he already looked very thin at that time.
Liu Chia-Chang’s legacy lives on through his timeless music. Over the years, the songwriter penned numerous hits, including songs for Teresa Teng, Feng Fei-fei, and Fei Yu-ching.
