The Rosy Business franchise, a cornerstone of Hong Kong television, catapulted Wayne Lai to fame with his portrayal of the memorable “Chai Kau” in its earlier installments. Now, with Rosy Business 4: No Return (巾幗梟雄之懸崖), the 60-year-old actor once again delivers a noteworthy performance as “Chai Sap Cat,” alongside Nancy Wu as “Cat Yeh.” Despite initial controversies over casting changes—replacing Sheren Tang with Nancy Wu—the drama gained momentum and viewership ratings.
The two-hour finale aired recently. With the big villain played by Edwin Siu already dead in the series, the finale blended tear-jerking moments between the two leads. Early in the episode, Chai Sap Cat is visited by Cat Yeh, who travels from Shanghai to Hong Kong to console him. Their dialogue, devoid of cheesy lines nor skinship showcased their unspoken love. The finale culminated in a bittersweet yet touching sequence. Chai Sap Cat finally confesses his love and proposes: “Cat Yeh, I want to marry you.”
Cat Yeh, now dealing with memory decline, humorously counters his lack of flowers and rings, prompting Chai Sap Cat to give the ring. The same proposal replays on Cat Yeh’s 55th and 65th birthdays. Their transformations into elderly versions of themselves, complete with white hair and wrinkles, reveals the final proposal. Chai Sap Cat tells her: “Miss, this is the 28th time I’m proposing to you. We’re getting old; you have to say yes. Every time I propose, you forget, so I just keep proposing again and again.”
