Li Yitong’s next drama Gu Yue Feng Hua Lu (古乐风华录) has kicked off filming. It brings her back in a project co-produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures and Stellar Media after she made a special appearance as Esther Yu’s teacher in Love Between Fairy and Devil. This time, the 34-year-old actress has top billing as the female lead of what’s being touted as Tencent’s S-level drama. Filming has officially kicked off today, November 27. The Double actor Chen Xinhai (Ocean) steps up as leading man.
Set in a fantasy world, Li Yitong takes on dual roles as music goddess Yue Yangyang, and musician Xi Yin. Opposite her, Chen Xinhai portrays Shao Yi, a music spirit. Their characters play a pivotal role in uniting the “Twelve Music Spirits” and resolving their conflicts. As far as the usual xianxia romance goes, this brings a unique theme that explores Chinese traditional music through a mythological lens. It’ll also be under the musical direction of China National Traditional Orchestra.
Li Yitong and Chen Xinhai’s new drama is executive producer Wang Yixu’s next drama to kick off after the success of Love Game in Eastern Fantasy. It brings back the same director Zhao Yilong. It’s certainly a good time to kick off a new project, though some are hesitant over reports it also has the same writer from previous Stellar dramas, which despite successes have been criticized for not having solid narratives to carry the entire series.
