Actor Fei Qiming recently joined Love Game in Eastern Fantasy as a new character, drawing attention as controversy arises over alleged extra scenes given to his role. The 28-year-old star found himself at the center of online discussions accusing the production team of expanding scenes for the third male lead.
Accusations of “Adding Water”
In response to the buzz, Fei Qiming addressed the rumors on social media, denying the “added scenes” and clarifying that he is not the third male lead. He wrote, “Not the third male lead, really not! No extra scenes—believe me! Keep watching for surprises. Share this post, and send 100 netizens happy fruit!”
Love Game in Eastern Fantasy is currently at its midway point. While the drama’s beginning earned praise, recent feedback suggests that the plot has become less engaging, with accusations of “adding water”—a term used when shows add filler content to extend episodes or spotlight certain actors. In Fei Qiming’s case, some viewers feel that his character, Zhao Ruoshi, introduced to create jealousy in Mu Sheng, feels unnecessary as Ling Yu, the heroine, is already “supposed to be” interested in Liu Fuyi. Additionally, Zhao Ruoshi was only briefly mentioned in the original novel and played a minor role.
Nevertheless, Fei Qiming’s response seems to assure fans that no extra scenes have been added, suggesting the accusations might be an overreaction. With just over 32 episodes in total, Love Game in Eastern Fantasy is relatively short, leaving not much time to further develop character arcs. Fans hope the show maintains its momentum as it progresses.
Interestingly, this is not Fei Qiming’s only project with Esther Yu. The actor-singer-host is set to play the second male lead in Esther’s upcoming modern drama, Ski Into Love. Since his debut in Waiting for You in the Future, Fei Qiming is slowly building his career, participating in numerous projects across genres.
