“Forensic Heroes Season 6” Opens to Criticism: Too Much Case-Solving at the Cafe

Bosco Wong star in Forensic Heroes 6

The sixth season of Hong Kong police procedural drama Forensic Heroes 法證先鋒6 recently aired and avid fans didn’t seem to be too happy. The verdict? It’s not gonna be as good as the previous ones.

A Long-Running Franchise

The Forensic Heroes franchise, which has gone on for almost two decides since it was first released in 2006 starring Bobby Au has undergone many casting changes from Wayne Lai, Raymond Wong to a cast led by Bosco Wong for Forensic Heroes Seasons 5 and 6. Part of the charm of the show was that it captured every step of the investigation as it unfolds. Fans of police procedurals were satisfied and the cases were interesting. However, there are complaints that things have gone downhill.

First Impressions

In Forensic Heroes 6, Bosco Wong’s character Yu Sing Pak aka Yu Sir is supposed to be the senior investigative lead yet it doesn’t appear that Yu Sir is doing much investigating at all. Instead, he seems more focused on the search for his wife. The same can be said for forensic doctor Fan (Jacky Cai) and Sir Cheng who are more focused on other things rather than performing autopsies and investigating. Since the three main leads are “otherwise occupied”, it fell on supporting characters Joey Thye, Niklas Lam and Mandy Yuen to do the actual investigating and solve the case! In fact Netizens have jokingly started to refer to these three as the show’s protagonists instead.

Forensic Heroes 6 three leads

Another odd thing? What’s up with the team’s propensity to analyse the case in bizarro locations, namely in either a café or a laundromat.  Sure, since everyone needs their daily dose of caffeine, a café might still make sense (guess keeping the details of the case confidential isn’t an issue here). But a laundromat? Netizens pointed out it’s strange to meet in one that often coz you don’t need to do your laundry every day!

Thus far, the show is just a few episodes in so there’s still ample time for it to turn things around. Who knows, it just might (or might not) end up surprising audiences.
