Wong Yat-fei celebrated his 82nd birthday recently, with his longtime friend Gabriel Wong Yat-san sharing photos from the birthday party on Weibo, along with a heartfelt message: “Yesterday was Brother Fei’s 82nd birthday. I’ve known him for 34 years, really from humble beginnings. Happy birthday, Brother Fei, wishing you good health, happiness, and longevity!” The birthday star, Wong Yat-fei, dressed in vibrant red, looked very festive. Both Hong Kong actors, who have shifted their focus to the mainland, used to work with Stephen Chow in his comedy films.
Wong Yat-fei is best known for his role as Iron Head in Shaolin Soccer, which earned him the Best Supporting Actor award at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Although he had a falling out with Stephen Chow and declared he would never work with him again, the two go way back, having met before fame. The breaking point incidentally came during the filming of Shaolin Soccer when Wong said he wasn’t allowed a stunt double and had to smash his head with a prop bottle. However, he changed his tune in recent years, with Wong Yat-fei publicly thanking Chow, calling him a “genius” and expressing his gratitude.
It is estimated that Wong Yat-fei has appeared in 40 films over the past years. He has also participated in a number of Chinese online movies, which pay homage to Chow’s old works.
