Go Ahead, the 2020 hit Chinese series that beautifully portrayed how the bonds of a found family can be stronger than blood joins the list of c-dramas getting a Korean remake. And what do you know, the K-Drama version, Family by Choice, is scheduled to air in the second half of 2024! Show producer JBTC announced this bit now that filming has wrapped.
In the original Chinese version, Seven Tan Songyun, Song Weilong and Steven Zhang Xincheng portrayed the three “siblings” at the core of the coming-of-age story. Though not siblings by blood, the bond they shared after experiencing life’s ups and downs together was unshakable. They soon part ways only to reunite 10 years later. Family By Choice will feature a similar storyline with Hwang In-yeop, Jung Chae-yeon, and Bae Hyun-sung at the helm.
Who Plays Who
Hwang In-yeop stars as Song Weilong’s character named Kim San-ha. Meanwhile, the role of Yoon Joo-won, the Korean adaptation of Tan Songyun’s sunny and optimistic character will be portrayed by actress Jung Chae-yeon . Rounding up their merry little trio is Bae Hyun-sung who takes on the role of Kang Hae-joon originally based on Zhang Xincheng’s character. While people can have varying opinions on the new cast, it appears the dads, played by Choi Won-young and Choi Moo-sung, two actors who are familiar fixtures in the industry, have the buy-in of many fans.

A Good Thing?
As far as remakes go, I’m always wary about whether the newer version will be able to capture the essence of what makes the original so well-loved in the first place. Though I’m pretty sure that script writer Hong Si-young and director Kim Seung-ho who directed Joseon Attorney are both up for the challenge of ensuring the Korean version will pull on everyone’s heartstrings just like the original. If anything, even though Chinese dramas being remade into a Kdrama isn’t new, it would hopefully open new doors towards a wider global audience when curious viewers come looking for the original.

I’m sorry for being negative but I don’t have high expectations for this remake the original was casted perfectly and the chemistry was fantastic especially the dads imo the only good thing about this remake is that it will bring in new ppl to watch the original

Same! I love the original! It’s one of my top dramas and I’m not even a fan of modern C-dramas.

I’m not so sure about people coming to look for the chinese original. Knowing some people, they might say that the chinese version is the re-make from the korean original.

Loved the original! Cried almost every episode due to their familial bond. Not sure if this remake will live up to the originals hype. We shall have to wait and see. 😖

Hwang In-youp!! I had such SML syndrome for him in True Beauty. I’ve been wanting him in more dramas, so I look forward to this!

There’s no need to do a remake, just subtitle the original and watch it. I don’t hold out much hope for this remake. Remakes rarely live up to the hype or fame of the originals.
