The family themed drama Go Ahead 以家人之名 seems to be at a crossroads. With the three siblings played by Tan Songyun, Song Weilong and Zhang Xincheng all grown up, what happens next? I used to think family dynamics was a deep well of experience writers can draw a multilayered story from. Sibling squabbles, friendly competition and growing pains?
Go Ahead had all these elements in abundance made even better by a unique twist. The bond between two dads and three “siblings” unrelated by blood but connected through the bonds of kinship and love that proves that sometimes, blood is not always thicker than water. One would’ve thought the drama would have gone with this premise for its entire run. But it appears the writers have totally redefined family relationships once again by throwing onto the table romantic love.

Things started going off tangent when Ling Xiao’s relationship with little sister Jianjian started to subtly turn romantic upon his return. For new viewers who’ve just tuned in to the show recently, you’ll have noticed scenes of Song Weilong’s Ling Xiao bickering with Tan Songyun’s Jianjian. There are also those scenes of him stroking her head, pinching her cheeks and holding her hands. Certainly there’s enough of it to make viewers question how is it a brother sister sort of relationship between those two.
Not that it’s bad or anything, but to many viewers, it definitely feels like a show with great potential is turning into a typical idol romance if both ‘brothers’ end up falling for the girl. When asked about this new direction, “father” Tu Songyan reiterated that family relationships will remain to be the show’s primary focus. And as for the romantic angle, he said “I haven’t fallen in love in a long while. I don’t have anything to say about this. I pay more attention to the familial aspect of the show.”

I thought this was common knowledge that this had romance? It’s a family healing drama with romance. I mean it has been hinting towards a romance since they were teenagers (like how he didn’t want her in his bed because he doesn’t see her as just a little sister) and if anyone watched any of the credits or trailers it was kinda obvious.
I have no problem with this because I went in expecting romance before pressing play on ep 1 but I can see being disappointed not knowing it does have romance.

Reminds me of Reply 1994. Hopefully they’re not playing “guess-the-husband” in this one.

Lmao… so funny. Guess the husband thing seriously got on my last nerve. But this is soooo Reply series kind of story. But i still like this one.
Ling Xiao always has a feeling for jianjian since teenager. His body language, his acts, his stares, his cares… no bro did it like him. My bros always got on my last nerve lmao.
But i like steven zhang. Huaaaa..

Correct me if i’m wrong. Shouldn’t they translate the English’s tiltle as “In The Name of Family”? Why did they call it as ” Go Ahead”?

Honestly, anyone who was paying attention in the early episodes should’ve known there was going to be romance between Ling Xiao and Jian Jian’s character. As another watcher already pointed out, the way Ling Xiao looks at Jian Jian and the way he treated her during their teenage years was a dead giveaway. As for He Ziqui, I don’t think he actually has romantic feelings for Jian Jian. His friend is confusing him and he’s so desperate to be legally part of her family, that he’s going to extreme lengths. I think he’ll eventually figure it out for himself. Either way though, this drama is an absolute gem!

Every family drama has romance in the line, I don’t understand why you are complaining about that, even the opening team has romantic scenes more than the family, we enjoyed it so please stop complaining. Do you expect to have a family drama with out any romance?
