Here’s something we don’t often see on c-ent: a werewolf themed fantasy series which is coming up next on Youku’s summer lineup. The Princess and the Werewolf 郎君不如意 features Betty Wu Xuanyi and Chen Zheyuan as the “beastly” hero she finds herself in a sort of love triangle with. It’d be interesting to see the show’s take on the concept especially since it’s an entire clan that develops different animalistic traits due to a plague one hundred years ago. Nonetheless, if you’re curious to see how this pans out, you won’t have long to wait since The Princess and the Werewolf is already gearing up for a July 20 release.
Lately, all eyes have been on Cheng Yi’s Mysterious Lotus Casebook’s rumoured premiere that still hasn’t happened yet. The Princess and the Werewolf landing a slot in the very jam-packed summer is definitely a pleasant surprise. It also marks Chen Zheyuan’s next drama to air on Youku just after Hidden Love. Meanwhile, this is Wu Xuanyi’s first drama for 2023 as her last ones were 2021’s Sweet Teeth and Douluo Continent.
The Princess and the Werewolf Synopsis
After stumbling into an ambush whilst investigating an arson case in the palace, Princess Qi Pa (Wu Xuanyi) is rescued by the “wolf king” Kui Mulang (Chen Zheyuan) who insists on marrying her. But Qi Pa is disgusted and afraid of Kui Mulang who only appears to her at night and kept trying to escape. Her world is further turned upside down by a handsome man named Li Xiong who only appears during the day. Little did she know that Kui Mulang and Li Xiong are one and the same. As she spends more time with Kui Mu Lang, Beauty and the beast fall for each other.
