Fans of the hit Hong Kong series Modern Dynasty 家族榮耀, listen up because a spin-off starring Charmaine Sheh, 48, and Raymond Lam, 43, is currently in the works. Produced once again by Media Asia, filming for the spin-off entitled Modern Dynasty: Heirs 家族榮耀之繼承者 is already slated to kick off on July 10 in both Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Whereas the original series featured the wealthy yet dysfunctional Ma family, the spin-off will centre around the wealthy Yau (丘) family instead. However don’t expect the crazy family dynamics to be any less. I mean, how could any story featuring a wealthy and prominent family with an ailing head and no heir apparent named not be rife with intrigue and power plays?
Since working together in their food themed 2005 series Yummy Yummy, Charmaine and Raymond have collaborated a total of five times already namely in Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion, The Drive of Life, My Sister of Eternal Flower and the last one being 2014’s Line Walker. The Heir marks the 6th time and it was a reunion that took nine years before it can be realised.
Aside from Charmaine and Raymond, it has also been confirmed that Him Law will be back for the spin-off. Guess that means we’ll probably be seeing some members of the Ma family in one way or another here too. Although it had been previously rumoured that Myolie Wu will also be starring in the series, it doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen since the actress doesn’t appear to be listed amongst the cast thus far.
