After a long hiatus, Lucas Wong has officially parted ways with NCT and its subunit WayV.
On May 10, 2023, his agency, SM Entertainment, released a statement that the idol will be pursuing solo activities moving forward. According to them, the decision is made out of respect for the other members of the group as well as the fans.
Lucas debuted with NCT last 2018 and easily became a crowd favorite with his skills and visuals. With the group’s success, the agency decided to launch a Chinese subunit called WayV (We Are Your Vision) in 2019. Lucas continued to thrive during that year as he also became part of SuperM, a group consisting of artists from different boybands: Shinee, EXO, NCT 127, and WayV.
But all that glory suddenly collapsed when Lucas was embroiled in a controversy last 2021. A Korean netizen claimed that she was an ex-girlfriend of the artist and suffered emotionally throughout their relationship. Following her, two more Chinese netizens claimed that they were also victims of the idol. He allegedly cheated and gaslighted his former lovers before completely cutting them out of his life.
Following the allegations, his activities were halted including the single “Jalapeno” which was supposed to drop last August 2021. He was out of the public eye for some time and netizens were left wondering about his future with the group.
Lucas penned a letter for his fans regarding his departure from the group and posted it on his Instagram account where he also expressed how grateful he is to the members and the staff he’s been with for the last 8 years.

Addressing the fans, Lucas also mentioned that he will show a better side of himself to repay those who support him.
