Something exciting this way comes as the ladies of War and Beauty cook up a reunion of sorts on the Chinese variety show Memories Beyond Horizons 无限超越班. Both Charmaine Sheh and Maggie Cheung who played Yi Sun and On Sin in the palace drama shared behind the scenes snippets where they can be seen recreating their looks from the drama, and the ladies look like they hardly changed at all!
Tagging Charmaine and Sheren Tang who also played imperial concubines battling for the emperor’s eye, Maggie said this is for everyone who fell in love with On Sin 18 years prior. And while she says she has so many feelings about it, she says she’s glad that everything miraculously fell into place to give her the chance to work with Charmaine and Sheren once again. It was very much worth it, she said. Meanwhile, Charmaine fondly greeted her character with a “long time no see”.

Learning from the Classics
Memories Beyond Horizons which is a joint production between Zhejiang TV, Youku and TVB puts together veteran actors with younger actors in the hopes that they will be able to learn from each other’s experiences. Using beloved Hong Kong classics and the decades of experience brought to the table by the mentors, the shows hopes to refine the artists’ skills through collaboration.
When it comes to palace dramas, 2004’s War and Beauty is indeed one of the classics. With a great plot and script bringing to life multi dimensional characters, its story chronicling life behind the palace gates for the various women selected to become the emperor’s concubines was a must see then. It’ll surely be nostalgic to see the ladies reprise their roles now even if it’s just to reenact some of their iconic scenes.
