It looks like Hong Kong star Ekin Cheng is gearing up for a brand new project, having been spotted filming recently in Taiwan. Sightings of the 54-year-old actor all over town has had folks guessing what he’s been up to. Many thought he was filming something for Ruby Lin’s popular Netflix series Light the Night. Turns out the Cantopop singer and actor is actually starring in a new investigative series The Internet Celebrity 百萬人的推理. However, the theory about his involvement with the Light the Night series isn’t too far off. After all, The Internet Celebrity is from the same producers – Bossdom (百聿數碼) and Gift Pictures (天予電影).
Aside from Ekin, The Internet Celebrity stars Shou Lou, actress Patty Lee, Edison Wang, Lee Lee-zen and Buffy Chen. In the series, Ekin teams up with Shou and Patty to investigate the serial murder case of an Internet celebrity. Aside from the plot twists and red herrings, what makes this story unique is that the investigators crowd-sourced help online to solve the murder. According to the actor, learning it’s a suspense mystery prompted him to take on the project since he was a fan of the genre.

At the peak of his popularity in the 90s, Ekin Cheng was in good company working alongside peers such as Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung, Aaron Kwok and Leon Lai. Thanks to his breakout role playing Chan Ho Nam in the triad series Young and Dangerous, Ekin’s career was on the fast track to superstardom. These days though, the star has gradually tapered off his acting commitments which makes this project all the more anticipated.
