Hong Kong actress Cecilia Yip just shared a glimpse of herself embracing her grey locks over on her Douyin account whilst attempting the guitar. A netizen wrote, “I like you so much, Liu Ruoying (Rene Liu). I love your Later (song title)”. Cecilia responded with a “thank you” to the netizen who mistook her for singer Rene Liu.
While older celebs unfortunately tend to encounter ageism, Cecilia who’s 59 received positive comments for looking natural with all-white hair. She also looked as fresh as ever wearing a big big smile for the camera despite going grey. Earlier in the year, Cecilia was spotted sporting a light brown hairdo and dark roots. Hence the speculation that perhaps she coloured her hair grey purposely for work.
53-year-old Rene Liu whom Cecilia was mistaken for seems to also have noticed her new look. In a video, Rene plays the guitar while singing, “Ye Tong, Ye Tong, I like you” and that they should play guitar or act together some time. She also wrote, “Ye Tong jie (older sister), like your temperament, your dramas, and now, I also like your condition and style. very cool.”
At the peak of her career, Cecilia Yip’s filmography is definitely choc full of Hong Kong classics such as The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber (1993) and This Thing Called Love. In addition to being a successful actress, she is also famously known for her gender-bender role as Angie Chiu’s leading man Xu Xian in 1992’s Legend of White Snake. Meanwhile, Taiwanese singer-songwriter Rene Liu is also an actress, director and writer. The two ladies both in their fifties are distinguishable in their respective fields. And it looks like the case of mistaken identities has led to a sweet encounter.
