The list of BL adaptations this year keeps getting longer as another web drama is reported to be on the radar entitled The Story of the Bat 夜燕白. For this latest project, Mao Zijun who will also be appearing in another dual male led drama called Hen Jun Bu Si Jiang Lou Yue 恨君不似江楼月, is earmarked to play Fenglong opposite Gala Zhang Yao‘s Bai Shaoqing in the drama adaptation of author Feng Nong‘s novel “Bat”.
Feng Nong is actually the very same author who wrote the novel from where General and I starring Wallace Chung and Angelababy was based, but she’s actually known for her BL publications. As for the drama, filming has already begun following its kick off on December 15.

The costume drama follows the tale of the sudden destruction of the Bai family and the vengeance finally taken by the previously unwelcomed young master of the house, Bai Shaoqing. In his quest to uncover the truth, he meets Fenglong, a leader in the pugilistic world who helps him investigate the truth about the Bai family’s downfall. The Story of the Bat also stars Rain Lü Xiaoyu and Liu Yuhan.

Ever since The Untamed proved to the bigwigs in dramaland the popularity of BL adaptations and its profitability, the industry has pulled out all the stops to ensure it captures a big slice of the drama watching market. The sheer number of adaptations mushrooming up all over is a proof of that.
Author Priest who has a lot of BL themed novels out in the market is in fact enjoying her moment now with a string of her books – A Tale of the Wanderers 天涯客, Sha Po Lang 杀破狼 and more recently Light the Darkness 默读 being transformed into dramas. This is also the case for author Mo Xiang Tong Xiu who just last week also confirmed that Heaven Official’s Blessing 天官赐福 is getting a drama adaptation in the new year! Could Feng Nong be the next big thing in the genre? Maybe. But then again, you know how the censors will start banning anything that becomes too popular? Let’s hope though that this doesn’t happen just yet.
