If the title wasn’t enough to clue you in, how can The Moon Brightens for You 明月曾照江东寒  be anything else but a romance – a romance with a wuxia twist that is. Adapted from the novel of the same name written by Ding Mo, the 36 episode drama tells the story of Lin Fang and Zhan Qinghong as they continue to grow and share experiences together in their journey to become the brightest lights in the pugilist world.

Alan Yu Menglong is Lin Fang, who in society’s eyes is the uninhibited and sickly pampered son of an aristocratic family. In reality, the man considered to be the most handsome in Junan cleverly hides his motives of extracting revenge for his family behind his weak playboy exterior. Meanwhile, actress Xing Fei plays the heroine Zhan Qinghong, a quirky and unconventional girl who first set foot in the martial arts world with wide eyed innocence. After realizing that the pugilist world has failed to uphold its virtues of righteousness and is now controlled by traitors, her intelligence and determination as well as her inner strength become her saving grace. Together, Lin Fang and Qinghong must face the daunting challenges of building a pugilist world vastly different from the past.

The Moon Brightens for You stars The Love Lasts Two Minds’ Alan Yu Menglong and Xing Fei of Put Your Head on My Shoulders fame.  In the past, Xing Fei has always gravitated towards quirky and bubbly roles so playing the unconventional Qinghong should be a walk in the park. Meanwhile, Yu Menglong can certainly play the broody young noble to a T but it’ll be interesting to see how he’ll be able to incorporate the “uninhibited playboy” description his character entails. Merxat Yalkun, Zheng Fanxing and Zhang Kaitai will also be joining both actors in the drama.
