Nearly a year after the passing of Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, her husband DJ Koo (Koo Jun-yup) continues to mourn her in a way that is deeply heartbreaking. Since her death on February 2, 2025, DJ Koo has been repeatedly seen visiting her resting place at Chin Pao San Cemetery in Taipei, often almost every day, to keep her company. The 56-year-old South Korean star has also experienced noticeable weight loss since his wife’s passing.
A recent preview released by the South Korean program KBS Secret offered a rare glimpse into his current state just before the late-actress’ first year death anniversary. According to reports, he was barely able to speak. On the day of filming, heavy rain led the crew to believe he might not come. Instead, he showed up and quietly said, “Of course I had to come. Hsi-yuan lying there is enduring far more hardship than I am.” The host shared that DJ Koo was unable to answer most questions, responding only with tears. Clips showed DJ Koo kneeling at Barbie Hsu’s gravesite to pay his respects, before sitting quietly on a small chair and gazing at photos and videos of his late wife.
DJ Koo and Barbie Hsu first met in Taiwan in 1998 and dated for about a year before they broke up. After Hsu’s divorce in 2021, the two reconnected, reuniting after more than 20 years apart, and registered their marriage in 2022. In February 2025, Barbie Hsu suddenly passed away after contracting influenza that developed into pneumonia while traveling in Japan with her family.
