Adapted from the Jinjiang novel Returning to the Moment Before My Husband Castrated Himself by Mu Lanzhou, A Ming Dynasty Adventure (明月录) brings quite a unique pairing between a court lady and a eunuch. Wang Churan stars as Wei Caiwei, a woman who has memories of her past life and returns to the capital to avenge her family. Xin Yunlai plays the male lead who in his previous life was the deeply devoted Eastern Depot eunuch. In the present life, he is Wang Daxia, a seemingly dissolute yet patriotic Jinyiwei officer.
A Ming Dynasty Adventure Synopsis and Cast
The story unfolds events from two lifetimes: in the past, court lady Wei Caiwei and eunuch Wang Daxia become “companion spouses” in the imperial palace. Although being unable to have children remains his regret, he vows to do everything in his power to help her avenge her family’s downfall. In this life, Wei Caiwei vows, “I will avenge my own grievances, only wishing you safe and whole.” She’ll stop him from becoming a eunuch, but this time around, she’ll meet a side of him she’s never known before.
A Ming Dynasty Adventure is directed by Yang Huan (Lost You Forever) and writer Rao Jun (The Journey of Flower). Other cast include Liu Lingzi as Lu Ying, a Jinyiwei officer who is actually a female pretending to be a man. It’s the actress’ third drama with Wang Churan as the two became friends in Are You The One and worked together again in Overdo. Yin Yuhao, also known as Patrick Nattawat Finkler, plays Ding Wu, a scholar framed for a grave injustice. This marks the 22-year-old Thai actor’s first time donning the ancient garb for a Chinese drama. An Yuexi makes a special appearance as Liu Jiubao.
