Mandopop queen Jolin Tsai’s PLEASURE concert recently concluded its run in Taipei and is expected to launch a mainland China tour next. Its massive budget afforded the show striking large-scale props, ranging from a giant bull to a giant serpent. The visually intense production quickly went viral online. However, controversy soon followed as edited concert clips circulated with provocative captions, accusing the performance of containing “improper metaphors” and religious or “cult-like” implications.
The concert organizers working with Jolin Tsai issued a statement and struck back with legal action, specifically naming Douyin content creator “Silia” (Celia Liang). She had alleged that the concert contained Illuminati and Satanic innuendos, and the team claims she’d spread misinformation and incited personal attacks against the artist. They intend to pursue legal action, a rare move in Jolin Tsai’s 26-year career, as she typically does not publicly respond to antis. Fans largely welcomed the decision, praising her for standing up against what they view as targeted smears.
Celia Liang, a former contestant on the Taiwanese talent show One Million Star and now an influencer, responded with a controversial video titled “Jolin Tsai Is Suing Me?” The former singer claimed her content was meant purely for entertainment and argued that she was not the first to analyze Tsai’s work in this way. She also alleged that themes such as the concert’s “human paradise” and album’s “seven deadly sins” concept stem from Western religious ideas. She also wrote in the caption, “What’s the big deal? I’m honored to become the first person Jolin Tsai is suing.” She also said the reason her video’s gone is because it was reported by someone surnamed Cai. Meanwhile, Jolin Tsai’s upcoming mainland China tour appears unaffected, suggesting that authorities have raised no objections.
