The 24-year-old Chinese idol Ling Chao, also known as Didi, rose to fame in 2018 after participating in the talent show Idol Producer. Despite not making the cut, he later debuted as a member of the C-pop boy group ONER. Today, multiple hashtags related to “Ling Chao hitting fans at the airport” trended, and his management company has since issued a response to clarify what happened.
Ling Chao’s Agency Explains Stalker Fan Incident

Paparazzi footage shows Ling Chao suddenly knocked away one person’s phone, then grabbed their hoodie before she fell to the ground. After seeing this, a staff member stepped in and pulled Ling Chao away to prevent the situation from escalating. In another clip at a parking lot, Ling Chao opens the car door, grabs a woman who was standing at the door filming, snatches the phone from her hand, and throws it away before getting back into the car.
In response, his agency stated that the incident occurred at a high-speed rail station, not an airport. They claim that Ling Chao only grabbed the other party’s phone and caused damage to the screen and said that no physical violence took place. The person involved was identified as a long-term stalker fan (“sisheng”). Both sides have already negotiated compensation for the damaged phone.
This is not the first time Ling Chao had incidents with sisheng. Previously, at a fan signing event, he angrily told a stalker fan to leave. Two years ago, during a concert, he also publicly called out stalker fans and also posted online asking them to stay away from him. Meanwhile, the stalker is suspected of responding on social media, saying they were “free sparring with Ling Chao,” and even appeared proud of it.
Public reaction showed two extremes. Even if the person involved was a stalker, many were appalled by his actions, saying Ling Chao was wrong to get physical, especially towards women. Others argue that he did not “hit” anyone as the hashtag suggested and that he was simply pushed to the brink due to excessive sisheng behavior.

Why vwm idols not have right to breath just because they are idols? Do fans really love them? Or just enjoy hurting them

nah I’m putting my hands on them woman or not if I told them to leave me alone and they did not.

As a woman, I don’t blame him for losing his patience. Just because you’re a woman, doesn’t give you a pass to push people to the brink like this. I read on Twitter that these fans are sneaking into their private space, taking pictures of their food, drinks, and leaving messages like they’ll be back soon. You want to be treated like an equal but then cry foul when you are. While I don’t condone violence, they need to know they will not be tolerated. He didn’t try to beat her, he’s trying to snatch her phone away, and was a bit rough in the process because there’s no need to be gentle to these creeps.

They should enact a law to put shisheng in jail. Nobody loves to have camera in their faces all the time, especially when it was already private space. Just because she is a woman, doesn’t give her any extra rights to be so damn rude and intrusive and still expects to be treated gently.

Celebrities just cannot win. They either have to endure aggressive fans shoving phones right into their faces as they walk somewhere or they get criticised for rebuking them.
Frankly, any single one of these pesky stalkers deserves to be hit when they infringe on someone’s personal space. It’s a natural human reaction.
These guys are spoiling things for all the normal, respectful fans who won’t be able to get close to their idols anymore because they will be surrounded by a wall of bodyguards.
