Be Reborn fans rejoice, another installment in the franchise has officially kicked off. Titled Origin (重生之门·源起), the new Youku series has begun filming in Chengdu, Sichuan province. Lead actors Wu Jinyan and Xiao Shunyao appeared together at the opening ceremony, joined by supporting cast members Shang Xinyue, Kang Yiming, and Liu Guancheng.
While the drama expands the Be Reborn “thieves” universe, it follows an independent storyline. Five years ago, Zhou Yan (Wu Jinyan) was imprisoned for stealing a rare treasure. After her release, she’s pulled back into the world of master thieves in order to protect her family. Forced into a dangerous comeback, she teams up with Wei Zhan (Xiao Shunyao) to unravel a web of mysteries.
From the visuals alone, the series is giving strong underworld vibes. Wu Jinyan has made a name for herself through her massively popular revenge-themed period dramas, and this being another badass role is no doubt right up her alley. After giving birth, she returned to filming with Jiang Shan Wei Pin, and now jumps straight into Origin, marking a busy back-to-back schedule. Her previous drama faced rumors of on-set discord, so here’s to hoping this production runs smoothly. Xiao Shunyao takes the male lead here, his first time heading a drama in this genre.
