Chinese actress Zhong Chuxi once again finds herself at the center of heated debate after the 2025 Golden Rooster Awards. The Best Supporting Actress winner was seen standing between Best Actress Song Jia and Best Actor Jackson Yee, prompting accusations that she was trying to claim the center spot on stage. This follows a previous fashion event controversy, where she was similarly accused of “stealing the center position” by standing between Yang Mi and Liu Yifei during a group photo, drawing ire for apparently refusing to step aside.
While critics were quick to react, many also defended her, pointing out that in multiple shots, Zhong Chuxi can be seen in the second row, standing diagonally behind Best Actress winner Song Jia, alongside their film’s director. At one point, she even stepped slightly behind Song Jia, suggesting she was aware of potential scrutiny. Nevertheless, some continued to mockingly claim she was in the “1.5th row” all by herself. Some explained that several winners from their film Her Story were standing together, making her positioning natural for group shots.
Meanwhile, others also argued that the intense scrutiny was unnecessary. Zhong Chuxi was nominated for the first time and won Best Supporting Actress, a major milestone in her career. Her emotional acceptance speech reminded audiences that her work deserves the spotlight, highlighting her talent rather than the surrounding noise.
