On October 10, Chinese actor Fiction Guo Junchen’s studio released a strongly-worded statement, addressing the recent wave of online rumors that escalated into defamation and false police reports. The statement firmly denied claims about the actor’s personal safety being “threatened”, “controlled”, or “attacked”.
Rumors Spiral from Birthday Livestream
The controversy began after Guo Junchen’s birthday livestream on October 1 when he turned 28 years old. His cake with five, red longevity peaches and hand gestures were interpreted by some netizens as odd and seemingly a “distress signal.” Conspiracy theories quickly spread, linking the incident to other celebrity rumors and suggesting he was being “controlled” or “monitored.” Some individuals filed police reports, claiming the actor’s personal freedom was restricted. Police later confirmed that the reports were untrue, and the studio has since filed counter-reports against those responsible. The studio has also collected evidence of defamatory posts, videos, and comments, and that offenders must remove their posts or face legal consequences. Nevertheless, the statement clarified that Guo Junchen is indeed safe and continuing work as usual.
