Chinese medical drama The Heart Season 2 (问心2) has officially begun filming in Ningbo. Returning to their beloved roles are Mark Chao as Xiao Feng, Mao Xiaotong as Xiao Ran, and Jin Shijia as Lin Yi. Fans of the original will be delighted to see the trio back together, continuing their heartfelt journey as doctors at Dongli Hospital.
Season 2 is set two years after the events of Season 1. Xiao Feng returns from a rural medical aid mission and is promoted to Director of Cardiology. As he steps into leadership, he faces conflicts between professional ideals and administrative responsibilities. Lin Yi, known for his bold surgical decisions, confronts the burden of a family health history that threatens his stability. Meanwhile, Xiao Ran remains the emotional anchor of the team, balancing compassion with competence as tensions rise within the hospital.
The Heart may not be the buzziest show, but it’s earned praise for being a quality production, certainly enough to be greenlit for another second season. Th show aims to continue tackling real-world medical themes, such as resource allocation, patient-doctor trust, and ethical dilemmas, all while maintaining a humanistic tone.
New characters are also joining the cast: Zhang Jianing stars as Ouyang Da, and Chinese-born American actress Joan Chen makes a special appearance as Fang Xiaoran’s mother. Many are also hoping that Chen Haoyu could reprise her role as Chen Yue in the drama.
