Chinese actor Yu Menglong’s sudden passing after a tragic fall from a building on September 11 has led to widespread speculation about the nature of his death. Yu Menglong’s mother issued a public statement on the evening of September 16, clarifying that his death was an accident due to alcohol consumption.
Her statement, which was shared through Yu Menglong studio, comes amid growing conspiracy theories on social media. His death was confirmed only after rumors had already spread and the speculative comments have not waned due to questions over details at the scene and whom he was with before his death. It’s led to online accusations against some prominent industry figures who denied being present.
In her message, Yu Menglong’s mother revealed that the police have completed their investigation and briefed her on the case. She asked the public to stop spreading unverified theories and to allow the family space to grieve. Nevertheless, some are still calling for a statement from police or even a stamp on official statements such as this to ensure its authenticity.

Message from Yu Menglong’s Mother
To all friends who care about Yu Menglong: I am Yu Menglong’s mother. Recently, I have experienced great sorrow. My beloved son, Yu Menglong, has passed away after accidentally falling due to alcohol consumption. He has left us forever. This sudden tragedy has plunged us into deep grief.
The police have investigated the incident and reported the situation to me. The funeral arrangements have been handled. I hope everyone can look at this accidental incident rationally and refrain from further speculation. I also hope to return to a peaceful life as soon as possible, carrying the memory of Menglong and striving to live each day well. I believe this is also what Menglong would have wished.
Finally, I hope Menglong rests in peace in heaven. Once again, I sincerely thank everyone who has cared for and helped us.

his death does seem rather suspicious. the reports read that the window screens were removed…what kind of screens exactly? the type that you need screwdrivers to remove or the kind you slide across? if the latter, then yeah, it’s understandable. but if the former…it’s a lot less convincing.
good on his mom for at least trying to tamper down the endless speculations and rumors though. even in her grief, she’s keeping clearheaded on the situation and not trying to drag more people or conspiracies into the already tragic mix

Whatever it was, I have more faith in the police investigations and their findings than netizens speculating on various conspiracy theories and rumor-mongering.
It was an apartment building. Most probably mosquito nettings. And in China, there are plenty that are just stick-ons. You can buy them online too. Plenty of variations for a hundred different conspiracy theories.
Let the poor guy rest in peace.

lol I’m the opposite – I think of the police as HR over there. great when there’s no problem, but not exactly your advocate when there is an issue, esp when that involves big daddy or his posse. potential abuse of power is too great to ignore…similar to he-who-must-not-be-named who’s in office now in the U.S.
that being said, I do hope all of this is one big misunderstanding and that YML didn’t have a tragic story behind his actions.
HL
I understand how you feel too. Who will be the next Yu Menglong if there is more to it?
Coralie
@HL I’m actually hoping there’d be more (not like deaths, but actual open discussions – which isn’t really happening in China – about how toxic the industry is.) I mean, we saw ZLS. YML’s case is TBD, but both of them are rocking the boat. there’s also the case of that girl that came forward about how exploitative the Olympics committee is. unfortunately she was silenced. but y’know, the more ppl know, the more power they have about enforcing change
HL
His mum likely put out that statements because there are reasons she had to do so.
I agree, open discussions is important.

I think the only person who ever bluntly talked about how rotten the showbiz was Huang Zi Tao.

You are seriously decades behind times. You have no idea the level of check and balance processes they have put in place. Why would the so-called “big daddy” be concerned about a relatively insignificant and uninfluential actor like YuML? I would bet those people up there have no clue who Yu was.
Don’t assumed that it was a tragic story for him. What if he was indeed involved in organised crime? Like some others. You would be so broken to find something ugly behind the beautiful face.
Coralie
uhh exactly. why would big daddy and big govt care about a relatively and influential actor? and yet, all his news are being buried and erased every moment. not suspicious huh?
I’m not saying there’s no possibility of yml being complicit in something, but if so, that’s even more reason to reveal what they found. big Daddy’s posse LOVE to get dirt on ebiz celebs, so they can either look like they’re doing their job or expose how awful celebs are and make themselves look better in comparison. they don’t care what celebs do usually unless it gets too big and threatens their own influence…which is what’s happening here.
Coralie
and usually when things like this happen, they would usually come out with some explanation and rationale about what they discovered formally. that hasn’t happened here. no explanation to the public

His death is not that simple. The police just brushed it off and made a conclusion too soon. It looks suspicious when they do that. They need to do a thorough investigation first.

I am sure the police are doing their investigations like they would in all other unnatural deaths, especially one this high profiled. All these stories of speculations and rumors are all from social media and hearsay. They seem to have more weight than the direct statement of the mother. Whether what the mother said is true or not, it is obvious she doesn’t want the gossip to continue. She might also be trying to protect her son’s reputation, if there were indeed some darker story behind the incident, which her son was actually involved in. If the son was truly an innocent victim whether of intention or negligence, any parent would call for full and open investigations to get their revenge and justice.
See, I am now also speculating based on my observation of human behavior but with a different twist to it. So don’t start any rumors.

I second Anon’s pov. Many social media accounts are pushing speculative views as that increase engagement and they can monetize better afterwards. On the other side specially US and UK based netizens that have low level trust in their institutions lean on conspiracy theories involving govt inst wrongdoings, and they are very active online. There could be another layer of conspiracy theories as well not involving govt inst, such as he was under influence and out of respect for family and agency business police keeps silent (what’s the point of airing it now). Or simply he was so intoxicated that he lost balance while leaning out of the window for fresh air. I’ve seen ppl in China going straight for IVs from nightlife due to level of alcohol intoxication. Could be the case here as well, just as mother and police said. Still internet will speculate as that is profitable for someone in the end not only human gossipy nature. One young and promising life is tragically lost, sad moment in deed. It’s horrible trying to monetize it and I welcome removal of speculative and fake content on line. Some kind of regulation of online space is much needed globally.

How does one fall of a window ? It is normal to find it suspicious … I am glad he was this loved that fans are asking is this truly the truth ? I will miss him ! Rest in peace

Yu Menglong was afraid of heights.
He was an only son. He donated to charity. He didn’t like to drink.
Rich powerful people were there. A relative of a powerful politician was there.
His “friends” and associates didn’t call 120, the property management or security did.
Pretty people become objects of abuse. Sponsors get mad when people resist. Not everyone wants to be used that way.
Powerful people can delete posts, can manipulate police.
I liked his singing, he looked happy and comfortable when he was singing. May he get justice, may he rest in peace, may the perpetrators pay.
I’m sorry he was done this way. No one deserves that.
Someone
Alcohol? please stop with the lies. he wasn’t drunk, he was abused by powerful people because he chose to not be a bad person. he was silenced just like many others in China. how pathetic. he didn’t deserve this… How can a mother just shut up about this. a mother should know most of all how badly he got hurt, even if there’s no evidence to China. fk that. they are the worst in hiding schemes. Many are unfolding the truths from deep within. Can’t wait for the Whole presidency to die down. It’s really enough.
Lalalala
This isn’t the real statement from his mom. There’s a much longer statement from his mom who is advocating for the police to do something rather than labeling this as suicide and she knows there’s foul play. Of course it’s been taken down. Any normal human being who have seen the photos and videos that the government is trying so hard to suppress would understand this isn’t suicide. The police has done absolutely NOTHING. There’s no concept of justice in China. The law is for show. Only money matters and the law is controlled by powerful people to accomplish what they want to accomplish. “Vengeance is [His]” and I hope justice gets served.
