Youku officially announced the stars of its upcoming contemporary workplace drama Irreplaceable 无可替代. Featuring a fresh pairing between Zhao Jinmai and Wei Daxun, the female-centric series will focus primarily on Zhao Jinmai’s character Xu Chi who definitely looks like she’s not messing around when it comes to her career.
Looking quite cool and capable in a stylish black suit on the show poster, Zhao Jinmai drops her sweet girl image in favour of playing the ultimate girl boss. Under the tutelage of her boss, played by Wei Daxun, she works hard to live by her motto of being irreplaceable. Whilst decisive at the workplace, Xu Chi is the opposite in her personal life as she suffers with social anxiety and a marked resistance to intimacy.
Meanwhile, speaking of Wei Daxun playing her brilliant and domineering boss Ye Xin Zhi, the costume department sure knew what they were doing when they finished off his look with wire-rimmed eyeglasses. Broody intellectual look, anyone? *cue the smoulder*
Irreplaceable Synopsis
After witnessing her mother’s suicide following a divorce, Xu Chi vows to never become the weakest link in any scenario. Armed with a strong work ethic and her life motto of being irreplaceable, she works hard to rise to the top of her career as a consultant. Working with Ye Xinzhi the two colleagues work together to fight through multiple obstacles at work. From master and apprentice, their relationship gradually transforms to that of comrades-in-arms and lovers.
The 20 episode micro series directed by “the father of idol dramas” Chen Mingzhang is expected to wrap filming by the end of the year and will also feature Zhou Qi and actress Bai Bing as the second lead couple. Irreplaceable also features Wang Yuanke, Lin Xiaozhai and Li Zifeng.
