In the wee hours of July 18th, Jackson Wang excitedly posted about the upcoming release of his MAGICMAN 2 album scheduled to be out globally at noon time on July 18. However, a few minutes later, he unexpectedly posted another update. “I just found out the album is out. I myself didn’t even know. I’m devastated. That’s the situation. I don’t have anything else to say about it. Thank you.” It turns out his album was already put out in advance on platforms such as NetEase Cloud Music, Apple Music and in other streaming platforms at around 2 am EST – several hours earlier than the planned 12 noon release, sans notice.
History Repeating Itself?
“For me this album has been released without my knowledge. My heart is also telling me that I don’t know when I’ll be able to write another album like this. I also feel like I won’t be able to write something so personal ever again.” Over on Instagram where he has more than 33 million followers, he also apologised to his fan group and said he felt bad for giving everyone the wrong message. “I don’t know what to say…. I’m very grateful to everyone.”

Later, the 31-year-old singer emphasised that the miss was caused by internal problems. NetEase meanwhile claimed “the album was released on other platforms ahead of schedule due to unexpected events. After confirming and communicating with the artist’s Studio, we made every effort to coordinate and release the new album as quickly as possible to ensure everyone can listen to the new songs in time.”
Whilst the “leak” may seem like a mere technical error for some, Jackson’s very emotional response to how his innermost thoughts were revealed carelessly to the public is a testament to how he truly feels. Especially when something like this already happened when they released MAGICMAN in 2022. Not to mention how this newest album is a personal diary of sorts, where each song chronicles his recent life experiences from his depression to career lows and even family trauma which could have been treated with more consideration.
