Hong Kong martial arts super star Sammo Hung is on Douyin! When it comes to learning new things and getting on social media, the 73-year-old star proves that age is pretty much just a number. Not only has he recently joined Douyin (Chinese TikTok) and already amassed more than 730k followers on the platform in just three days, he’d even uploaded a new video edit with clips from some of his movies! Now as someone constantly struggling to cobble together an interesting enough edit on social media each time (the number of my discarded drafts are probably bigger than what I’ve uploaded), I’d say he’s done a pretty good job.

Hello everyone, I’m finally on Douyin!” For his inaugural Douyin post, Sammo strung together some clips from his movies with scenes encouraging everyone to keep on improving themselves. “60 years of learnings: Losing isn’t scary, but being afraid of losing is terrifying. Losing is only a temporary result,  yet taking risks should be your lifelong attitude.” Indeed the 73-year-old star has built his career on bucking the trend and taking risks. As one of the pioneers of Hong Kong action cinema as we know today, he was instrumental in reinventing the genre, blending action and comedy whilst at the same time helping out many of his peers in getting a firm foothold in the industry.

Although Sammo has often been papped out and about alone – shopping or checking out the produce at the Sheung Shui market on his trusty wheelchair, it’s very refreshing to catch a glimpse of the star’s family life. In a recent post, Sammo shared a photo of himself with his family and grandkids as he wished everyone a Happy Father’s Day in advance with his son Timmy Hung.
