Here’s an interesting piece from Wang Xingyue and Xu Ruohan which just began filming last week. Love in Red Dust 红尘四合, the drama adaptation of the novel of the same name by You Sijie, sees the drama’s heroine Wen Dingyi disguising herself as a man to become an executioner’s apprentice of all things! Going from the daughter of a high-ranking official to executioner after the destruction of her family is definitely a huge leap. And therein lies the mystery.
Wang Xingyue meanwhile plays the Prince Yuwen Hongce, the twelfth brother of the current emperor who’s tasked to investigate Wen Dingyi’s father’s case. Known as the “fox general” for his cunning, his cold demeanor hides a warm heart. After making the acquaintance of Mu Xiaoshu (Wen Dingyi’s new alias), the pair team up to get to the bottom of the conspiracy accusing her dad – the former vice minister of Revenue, of corruption.
Directed by Zhu Ruibin who brought us Ashes of Love, the costume historical which blends together suspense and light comedy whilst also serving up a dose of political intrigue, is expected to continue its filming activities for four months. In the meantime, they recently released new posters for a glimpse of the cast. Aside from Wang Xingyue and Xu Ruohan, Chang Long and Chen Shujun round up the drama’s main cast as well as Zhang Zixuan and Cheng Hongxin whose black-caped and iron-clawed get-up looks particularly intriguing.
