Here’s another historical detective drama coming our way starring Li Landi and Ao Ruipeng titled Coroner’s Diary 朝雪录. Adapted from the web novel The Powerful and Favoured Medical Concubine by Bu Yue Qianzhuang, Li Landi plays our intrepid coroner slash investigator Qin Wan, daughter of the Dali Temple Minister who relies on her medical know-how and outstanding investigative skills to close unresolved cases with her partner in solving crime, the Prince Yan Chi played by Ao Ruipeng.
Whilst the story is all about the pair’s investigation of weird and unusual cases, viewers will undoubtedly Chinese horror story vibes from the way it’s filmed. From night time discoveries and an eerie underground cavern, to multiple skeletons and weird green lights – there’s even a mysterious lady in red, nothing screams horror elements like this does. Granted, it certainly makes for a unique show and adds a bit of spice to the story, making it an entertaining ride for viewers.
Coroner’s Diary Synopsis
Shen Wan is the daughter of the Dali temple minister Shen Yi. Because of his involvement in the Jin Wang case, his family was killed. Shen Wan flees to Jingzhou and reinvents herself as Qin Wan, the ninth lady of the Qin Mansion. No longer the weak and vulnerable girl, the now transformed Qin Wan not only cures illnesses and save lives, she’s also knowledgeable enough in forensics to solve cases. Qin Wan meets Prince Yan Chi (Ao Ruipeng) whose interest in the Jin Wang case coincided with Qin Wan’s whose goal was to clear her father’s name. In the course of their joint investigation, they team up to solve various bizarre cases that come their way. When an unexpected discovery of skeletons – all female, result in the reopening of the Jin Wang case, their investigation yields a shocking conspiracy in the palace.
