The finale of Such a Good Love (值得爱) hit viewers like an emotional gut-punch, marking a fateful reunion between ex-lovers Zhou Shui and Dai Daji, played by Wang Anyu and Wang Yuwen, after years apart. Instead of offering a fairy tale ending, the drama gave us a raw portrayal of love, dreams, and survival in harsh urban reality.
At its core, the series follows Zhou Shui and Dai Daji, a couple chasing their dreams in Beijing. Once filled with shared hopes, their relationship ultimately collapses—not from a lack of love, but from the crushing weight of rent hikes, job failures, and unfulfilled ambitions. Their breakup is a painful yet realistic depiction of love consumed by the cost of chasing ideals. Zhou Shui asks—would she ever forgive him? Daji firmly says no. A misunderstanding follows when Dai Daji sees a child, San San, run into Zhou Shui’s arms and assumes he has moved on with Xiao Juan. She clings to her boss Zhang and claims they’re getting married.
Later, Zhou Shui writes “In 2025, We Really Broke Up,” based on their story. The novel goes viral, and he travels to Beijing to sell the rights—leading to his reunion with Daji whom he sells the rights to for just one yuan. They laugh, recall the past, and for a brief moment, run through the streets hand-in-hand like they once did. But when Zhou Shui kisses her in the bus, she slaps him—then they kiss passionately, both in tears. They’d made peace, but they knew there was no going back.
In the final scene of Such a Good Love, Daji and Zhou Shui part ways at a crossroads in Beijing—both literally and metaphorically. Daji had begun as someone who chased after love, dropping everything to support Zhou Shui’s dream of becoming a director. But over time, it was Daji who discovered her own voice in film, while Zhou Shui lost his way. They broke up over the years, and after their emotional reunion, the roles had reversed: Daji had become a successful career woman, while Zhou Shui ended up cooking at a hotpot restaurant.
The second couple, Shen Jingshu (Huang Ziqi) and Ya Ling (Zhang Fan), offers an even more cynical ending. Shen Jingshu turned heartbreak into revenge—becoming a wealthy mistress and using her power to humiliate her former lover. She paid off Ya Ling’s family, essentially forcing him to leave his wife and daughter. They ended up “together,” but there was no love—only torment. In a voiceover, we hear their story ended that very night. Whether by accident or something darker is left unclear. Meanwhile, Su Zihao (Yang Yunhao), who’s given up on marriage, finally confessed to Tong Leyi (Zhao Jiali), and the two got together at last, marking the only couple to have a happy ending.
Throughout the series, Daji had always wanted to know Zhou Shui’s answer: was their love still worth it, even knowing it would end in heartbreak? In the end, he sends her a video, revealing that he had already answered her years ago. The younger Zhou Shui had filmed himself saying, “It’s worth it.”
As the two walk separate ways under the morning sun, the ending feels open-ended. Could they find their way back to each other someday? Maybe. But probably not. Still, it ends with hope. They didn’t end up together—but both had grown. Their time together shaped who they became. It wasn’t forever—but it was worth loving.

I loved it! Such a good love’s 2nd last episode made me weep… the story inside a story is an amazing device. And the breaking 4th wall… everything about it is about love of film as much as it is about youth and romantic love and growing up.. and it’s 100% sincere even with all it’s faults! 🙂 LOVE IT!
