Chinese actress Esther Yu Shuxin is in the hot seat after clips of her upending a bottle of something over her Speed and Love director during the show’s wrap party went viral. As the star of many popular hit dramas, scrutiny on Esther’s actions can be pretty intense. Whilst the actress caught flak from some Netizens calling out her actions for being disrespectful – there was even speculation that it was milk tea and not water she poured, it turns out it was all done in good fun. Earlier today, director Yu Zhongzhong spoke up to clarify what happened. “It’s all clean water, don’t worry. Getting doused with water symbolizes blessings for the new drama and that it will be successful” he said.
Esther and her co-star He Yu were in Thailand filming their web drama Speed and Love and were in fact still in town when the earthquake hit. Luckily, everyone’s safe. With filming now officially over, spirits were pretty high as everyone celebrated and posed for photos. Esther was even photographed cheekily smearing a bit of cake icing on He Yu’s cheek during the festivities.
If anything, the situation certainly served as a good reminder that what we see online does not necessarily paint a complete picture. Thankfully, director Yu Zhongzhong quickly stepped in to clear things up and put out a potential fire before things get heated.

Of course, the director had to eat humble pie and clear things up. Otherwise, he might be blacklisted. Esther Yu was totally disrespectful. It would be good fun if it was planned before hand. But from the clip, it was so obvious that there wasn’t any “good fun” on the director’s part. Who wants an unexpected bottle of water on your head, and when you have nothing to change into?
This is the kind of prank one might play with close friends when you know them well enough whether they are ok with such surprises, not with your directors or producers or other temporary work colleagues.

I don’t know why people make such a fuss about nothing. There’s clips of her getting doused by way more water than that from a second floor! It’s for good luck and part of Thai culture.
