In the years following the success of Reply 1988, former K-pop idol turned actress Lee Hyeri’s career has seen its fair share of ups and downs. And now a decade later, the 30-year-old actress is back with a vengeance thanks to her role in Friendly Rivalry playing top student and student council president Yoo Jae-yi who becomes super obsessed with new transfer student Woo Seul-gi.
Whilst the story is pretty much a psychological thriller set in an exclusive all-girls school for the top 1%, Friendly Rivalry, which is adapted from a webtoon brings a Girl’s Love (GL) theme that had everyone sitting up and taking notice. Before it aired, there was buzz over that tub scene that saw Hyeri and 26-year-old actress Chung Su Bin who played small town girl Woo Seul-gi sharing not just a bubble but also a kiss.
The series turned out to be fast-paced and showcased Hyeri in a role unlike anything she’s done before. Many of us still remember her as Deok-sun, but at nearly 31, she flawlessly pulls off playing a complex and enigmatic high schooler. And the chemistry with Chung Su Bin – through the roof!

Now that the drama has ended, some fans feel it wrapped up a bit too quickly. Fortunately, Hyeri and Chung Su Bin just held a Friendly Rivalry meet up of their own, sharing a quick snap of themselves hanging out and “going on a date”. Some fans are already asking for a Friendly Rivalry Season 2. Will we get it? Only time will tell!
