Hong Kong-born singer-songwriter Khalil Fong (Fang Datong) has passed away at 41. His record label FU Music confirmed that he departed on February 21, 2025, after battling illness for five years. A private memorial service was held on March 1. The late singer also left an inspiring message.

“Time waits for no one. As we age, we come to understand more deeply the duality of time—its reality and illusion. Life presents us with countless twists to navigate, yet I believe one of our goals should be to do so with grace and dignity.

At this particular moment in my life, where everything is woven into the past, I am granted the present to reflect on what was, contemplate the name I silently chose, and observe the future face of ‘The Dreamer.’ Symbolically, I remain here, filled with life’s many trials, a realm where infinite creative vision and boundless dreams exist.

May you, in the days to come, continue to hold fast to your dreams, persevere in your efforts, grow, evolve, and fully realize your potential at every stage of life.”

Khalil Fong revolutionized the Mandopop scene with his signature R&B and soul-infused sound, heavily inspired by music legends such as Stevie Wonder. His most iconic hits include This Love, Love Song, Three Person Tour, and many more.

In the past, Fong had a history of pneumothorax (collapsed lung), which had led to multiple hospitalizations. His exact cause of death remains undisclosed as his agent requested for privacy. Many were left in disbelief at his passing, with fellow artists and fans mourning the loss of a remarkable talent.
