Chen Xingxu and Lu Yuxiao have just been announced as the leads of the upcoming Chinese drama Ya Xi (轧戏), which has officially begun filming.
Adapted from the web novel Juggling Roles by Zu Le, the story follows Hu Xiu (played by Lu Yuxiao), a city girl with little luck in love. Her life takes a turn when she enters a script-based role-playing game, Snowpiercer, and meets a mysterious NPC named Qin Xiaoyi. She quickly becomes captivated, seizing every chance to interact with him.
However, Qin Xiaoyi isn’t just a game character—he’s actor Xiao Zhiyu (Chen Xingxu) and performing in the game is just a job, an extension of his acting career. Meanwhile, Hu Xiu’s friend Zhao Xiaorou sees love as nothing more than a game, believing that getting too serious means losing.
Ya Xi is directed by Mao De Shu and produced by Linmon Pictures. It also reunites Lu Yuxiao with the director, who served as the executive producer of 2022’s See You Tomorrow, where she played the second lead. Love the fresh pairing, though I’m wondering if it’s a triangle since there are three characters? The concept of blurring fiction and reality has been all too common in recent dramas—so we’ll have to see how this one plays out! Also in the cast are Dai Xu (listed as a special star), Li Tingting, and Ren Youlun.
