A recent incident involving a stunt woman on the set of Drifting Away has reignited discussions about safety measures in the Chinese entertainment industry. A viral clip of the scene they were filming showed a stunt double lying on the ground as a car drove past. However, she appeared to have been hit, as she could be heard screaming in pain while crew members rushed to her aid. The footage led to speculation that safety precautions were inadequate, highlighting concerns about working conditions for stunt performers.
The incident also drew comparisons to Drifting Away itself, a suspense drama that explores dark themes, including a female protagonist who is kidnapped. At the time of filming, assurances were made that lead actress Zhao Jinmai received proper care during intense scenes. However, irony now surrounds the situation, as a real stunt performer was seemingly put at risk.
On the same day, a woman claiming to be the injured stunt double created a Weibo account to clarify the situation. She stated that the video’s angle made the accident appear more serious than it was. She confirmed that she only sustained a minor scrape on her arm, not a head injury as some speculated. The production team immediately took her to the hospital for treatment, and she has since fully recovered. She also shared a CT scan to further support her statement and expressed gratitude for the public’s concern.

I saw the video post and really thought they ran over her head too. based on that picture it is still incredibly close… that wheel’s pathway looks like it is less than a foot from her head even if it made a sharp turn afterwards. wtf was the driver doing? he needs to be fired and not allowed to try something like this again in case he causes real injury next time.
