Chinese actor Zhang Songwen has recently found himself at the center of multiple controversies. From paparazzo alleging tax evasion to accusations from a former actress of domestic violence and inappropriate relationships, the 48-year-old actor, who rose to fame in recent years, has yet to respond.
Adding to the chaos, recent developments cast doubt on the credibility of some accusations. An official statement addressing trending tax allegations they state contained “substantial misinformation.” While the statement did not explicitly name Zhang Songwen, the connection was made as earlier gossip suggested he was under investigation for tax issues.
Meanwhile, former actress Jiang Chen accused Zhang Songwen of misconduct, sharing alleged chat records and even recordings online. She accused him of domestic violence, claimed he exploited actresses for roles. One recording implicated Li Zifeng, an investor in Zhang Songwen’s film (日挂中天), suggesting attempts were made to resolve the matter using questionable means and that the actor was “acting arrogant” and “replacing actors at will” on set. However, Li Zifeng refuted the claims, stating the recordings were maliciously edited. It’s also worth noting that Jiang Chen never explicitly named Zhang Songwen in her accusations.
Zhang Songwen’s silence has fueled public speculation, with many eagerly awaiting his side of the story. While some fans continue to support him, praising his gentle and humble demeanor, others are demanding a clear explanation. For now, he appears unaffected, attending events as scheduled and maintaining a calm and composed presence in front of the camera.

I’m always very suspicious when alleged abuse victims come forward years later to accuse someone just the moment they become successful. Zhang Songwen has worked long and hard to get where he is now. The fact that he doesn’t fit the stereotype of glitzy pretty boy and still gets lead roles must have rubbed up some people the wrong way.
It is quite telling that one of the people involved in the “recordings” has meanwhile publicly apologized to him and confirmed that her words were edited with malicious intent.

Best to watch this space….Zhang Songwen is too big a home name to be pulled down easily. Strong evidences are needed. As long as he conducts himself morally, there is no worries…isn’t it?
